It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) George Gray announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend at the age of 87.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Annie Gray; in-laws Baxter and Myrtice Tulk; brother in law, Jack Mouland and a number of very close cousins and friends.
Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Ivy; children: Susan Sopha (Kevin), Dena Stagg (Dean) and Todd Gray (Rochelle); brother, Terry Gray (Wyla), sister-in-law, Daphne Mouland, nieces, nephews and his most treasured grandchildren: Dylan Gibbons (Taylor), Anna Gibbons (Nigel), Carter Gray, Leanne Sopha, Gordon Sopha, Caiden Gray and Cohen Gray.
Bill spent the majority of his life as an inshore fishermen, fishing from the wharf at Lumsden North surrounded by the smell and peace of the ocean. Over his lifetime he did work away a few times at Churchill Falls and Corner Brook but would say that "fishing is in your blood". Bill, never one to be idle, spent fall and winter in the woods, berry picking and preparing for the fishing season. After retirement from the fishery, he spent a number of years attending to the Lumsden Cemetery. He took pride in making sure the cemetery was neat and tidy.
Bill was not a person who liked a lot of attention. The people closest to him were blessed with his singing and musical talents as well as his great sense of humour. His selflessness, dedication, strength and courage were to be admired. He was a man that asked for little and gave immensely.
The family would like to thank the incredible team at Bonnews Lodge where he has resided since August, 2022 for their care. A sincere thank you to the medical staff at Brookfield Hospital who took care of him in his final days and Kittiwake Funeral Home for the funeral arrangements.
Visitation will take place at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove on Thursday, May 8, 2026 at 2 P.M - 4 P.M. & 7 P.M. - 9 P.M.
