Violet
Vincent
September 1, 1929 – July 28, 2024
Violet Vincent passed away after a brief illness in Grand Falls-Windsor at the age of 94 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, Lester Vincent of Newtown; her parents, Kenneth and Christina Chaulk of Deadman's Bay; and her siblings Ida, Jane, George, Lewis, Cecil, Richard, Jesse, Stanley, and Josie and brother-in-law Frank Russell.
She leaves to mourn her sons Gord (Jane) of St. John's, NL; Perry (Shirley) of St. John's, NL; Eric (Lucy) of Strathroy, ON; Ken (Sherry) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; Jeff of Sarnia, ON; Paul (Jeanette) of Random Island, NL; Clyde (Jessica) of Musgrave Harbour, NL; Calvin (Kelley) of Conception Bay South, NL, and her daughter Gloria (Serge) of Wesleyville. Also left to mourn is her sister Ada Russell of London, ON; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends including special nephew Gord Chaulk.
Violet was born in Deadman's Bay and eventually moved to Newtown, where she met the love of her life, Lester. They were a perfect match—his famous jokes and one-liners and her love of laughter. Together, they raised 9 smart and equally funny children.
She worked hard her whole life, whether as a domestic worker as a young woman, a fish plant worker, or while taking care of the family. She baked raisin bread and partridgeberry jam tarts like no other, could knit a pair of vamps in her sleep, loved feeding and watching the birds (especially bluejays and chickadees), and was cherished by her grandchildren, many of whom have a lifetime of fond memories visiting her in Newtown and had the privilege of calling her Nan.
Violet will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the kind, generous, smart, talented, and exceptional person that she was. May she rest peacefully now, back at home, nestled beside Lester amongst the bakeapples and the marsh, with the birdsong and the sound of the ocean washing over them both.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove at 2 P.M. - 4 P.M. and 7 P.M. - 9 P.M.
