Sybil Knee, born on December 30, 1934, in Change Islands, Newfoundland, passed peacefully on June 5, 2026, at Dr. Y. K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre in Brookfield, NL. She was a devoted educator and a compassionate individual whose influence extended deeply into the lives of many.
The daughter of Stanley and Maud Torraville, Sybil faced early tragedy with the loss of her mother when she was just 1 year and 8 months old. Despite this hardship, she grew into a woman of remarkable kindness, generosity, and care as a result of the continued love of her father and step mother, Clara. Sybil married Gordon on August 28, 1956, and together they built a family that was central to her pride and joy.
Sybil embarked on her career as a teacher at a young age, dedicating 25 years of her professional life to working with special needs children. Her commitment to education and inclusion profoundly impacted her students and colleagues alike, standing as a testament to her selfless dedication.
Her proudest accomplishments were not only professional but deeply personal; she was a loving mother to her sons Danny (Vicky) of Grand Falls-Windsor, David of Badger's Quay, and Duane of Wesleyville. She took great pride and joy in being a grandmother to Jaxson and Hayden, cherishing the family bonds she nurtured over the years.
Sybil is survived by her sons and grandchildren, as well as her sisters Madge Chipman of C.B.S. and Ena Oake of Mount Pearl, and sister-in-law Marie Brown of Sandringham. Their presence reflects the enduring connections that Sybil maintained throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon; her parents, Stanley and Maud Torraville; step-mother Clara Torraville; sister Isabel Peckford (Ches); brother Maxwell Torraville (Marion); and brothers-in-law Raymond and Guy.
Sybil's legacy is one of unwavering kindness and commitment — qualities that shaped her both personally and professionally. Her contributions to education and her family will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who were fortunate to know her.
