On Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, Solomon (Sol) Hounsell of Pound Cove passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour at Dr. Y. K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Care Center. He was 84 years old.

Sol was born in Pound Cove to Thomas and Mary Hounsell. He grew up in a house full of children where he experienced an abundance of love and care. As a young man he left his roots in Pound Cove and attended trade school in Lewisporte where he completed a carpentry trade. Full of life and adventure he accepted a job at the pulp and paper mill in Corner Brook. It was here he met the love of his life, Verna Cooper. After a whirlwind courtship. They were married in February of 1969 and soon became parents to four beautiful children. They spent some time in Chamberlains, before returning to Sol's boyhood home in Pound Cove in 1979. This became their family's residence where they built many memories and shared time with countless relatives and friends.

Sol was a man of great faith and depended on God in all aspects of his life. He spent many years actively involved in his local church as a member of the church board, men's ministries and often prayed at community events for Denise's hockey tournaments. Sol will be missed by many for his warm friendship and generous spirit. He had a witty sense of humour and loved to chat to whoever was nearby. As a mentor to many he always gave an encouraging word when needed. The highlight of his life was the birth of his precious grandchildren, Liam and Alexa. His life was further blessed with his honorary grandchildren, Andrew Abbott, Abigail and Wyatt. Sol loved all the children immensely and was their greatest cheerleader for all of their accomplishments.

Sol is predeceased by his parents Mary and Thomas Hounsell; wife Verna; daughter Lois; sisters Eleanor Nicholl (Fred) and Minnie Janes (Wilburforce); brothers Baden, Llewellyn (Dorothy), Wilmore (Agnes), Eli, Melvin and Thomas.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his son Shane (Susan) of Badger's Quay; daughters Denise of Pound Cove and Tracy (Nelson deceased) of Wesleyville; brother Ellis (Blanche) of Wareham; grandchildren Liam and Alexa; honorary grandchildren Andrew Abbott, Abigail and Wyatt; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove on Friday, August 15, 2025 for public from 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at  Grace Pentecostal Church, Valleyfield at 2 P.M. with Pastor Troy Russell officiating. Interment will follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Valleyfield.

In lieu of flowers donations in Sol's memory may be made to The Hounsell family and a decision on monetary disbursements will be made later.
