It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing, at age 87, of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Shirley Emma Josephine Chaulk (née Stratton) on Monday, December 12 at the Long Term Care Home, Gander.
Predeceased by Bert, her husband of 61 years and her daughter Kemberley. Left missing her and mourning her loss, are her daughter Janice (Brian); sons Duke (Mary), Vince (Tina) and Rick (Louise); grandchildren Christina (Mark), Jessica (Steven), Courtney, Brittany, Sam, Ben, Charity and Celena; great-grandchildren Marina, Holly, Joel, and Lilah-Pearl; sister-in-law Leah Tulk, as well as a large number of beloved relatives and friends.
Shirley was so much to so many people: a true friend, a good listener, a loving wife, mother, and nan, maker of the world's best mustard salad, the person who provided big family dinners of full tables, full hearts and full bellies; the welcomer at the cabin at White Point where visitors brought her and Bert such happiness.
Her loss leaves an absence in the lives of those who loved her. An absence of her incredible kindness, generosity, welcoming heart, love and laughter. Oh her laughter. How we will miss her laughter and the joy she shared with us over a good story and a funny memory. We hope you will share stories with us over the coming days, here in the condolences section, or in person. Even though we are so very sad, we want to share laughter where we can, and think of her laughing with us, enjoying everyone gathered around and talking.
Resting at St. Stephen's United Church in Ladle Cove, visitation will be at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 16. Her funeral will take place on Saturday, December 17 at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen's United Church in Ladle Cove, officiated by Rev. Stephen Matthews of Gander.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in her memory to St. Stephen's United Church, Ladle Cove.
