Hoben, Ruby Kathleen
September 22, 1934 - January 23, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ruby Kathleen Hoben announces her peaceful passing on January 23, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving family at James Paton Health Care Centre.

Ruby was predeceased by her parents, Arthur Pardy and Myrtle Blundon, and infant brother. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Clarence; her daughter, Gail (Sean Collins); her son, John (Sylvia Mouland); and her three cherished grandchildren, Courtney (Kevin), Sophia, and Norah. Ruby will also be deeply missed by her extended family, friends, and many former students.

Ruby dedicated her early years to teaching in the communities of Kettle Cove, Wesleyville, Ragged Harbour, and Musgrave Harbour. She had a special fondness for Ragged Harbour, where she formed lasting connections with her students and their families. Known for her gentle, kind, and caring nature, Ruby made a lasting impression on everyone she met.

After retiring from teaching, Ruby embraced her role as a homemaker, devoting herself to her family and caring for her elderly mother and aunt. A woman of deep faith, Ruby found daily comfort in her well-worn Bible. She was a source of warmth and joy, known for her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and love of socializing with family and friends. Ruby had a lifelong affection for animals, an enduring passion for reading, and a fondness for scenic afternoon drives with her husband, Clarence. Throughout her long battle with cancer, Clarence provided tireless unwavering care, a testament to their deep and profound bond. Ruby remained vibrant, active, and full of humor well into her late eighties, maintaining her love of life until the very end.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to friends and relatives for their unwavering support during Ruby's illness. Special thanks go to her family doctor, Dr. Gabriel, the doctors and nurses at the cancer clinic—especially Dr. Culleton—along with the exceptional and compassionate nurses and Dr. Paulus at James Paton Memorial Hospital.

In keeping with Ruby's wishes, cremation has taken place.

The family will be receiving friends at Kittiwake Funeral Home on January 25, 2025 between the hours of 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.

A celebration of life will be held at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Musgrave Harbour, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Grace Mouland on Sunday, January 26, 2025 with interment to follow.

As an expression of sympathy flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in Ruby's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
