January 19, 1943 – January 8, 2025
KEAN, Ronald Kitchener
It's with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved partner, brother, uncle, and friend, Ronald Kean. He passed away suddenly on January 8, 2025 at the Dr. Y.K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre, Brookfield, NL.
Predeceased by his parents, Roland in 1992 and Maggie (nee Perry) in 1982; sister Blanche Howse; brothers: Llewelyn (Doreen), James, and Allan (Patricia); brothers-in-law: Ambrose (Junior) Howse and Ralph James.
Ronald Kean of Pound Cove NL, aged 82 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his dedicated and loving partner of more than 25 years, Myrtle Preston of Pound Cove, NL; sister: Catherine Kean of Toronto Ontario; sister-in-law: Gertrude Kean of Mount Pearl. Also leaving behind a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Ronald was born on January 19, 1942 in Pound Cove. His youthful days were happily filled with his various pursuits of "outharbour delights." As a young man he made his way to Toronto to work and play with his younger beloved brother, Allan. He eventually found his calling on the sea where he worked and travelled the world as a commercial seaman for many years. While he worked and travelled to the farthest reaches of the World, his heart and soul was firmly anchored in Pound Cove. Blessed with a sharp wit and humorous spirit, Ronald was a gifted storyteller whose oral histories of the Bonavista Bay North area, and his often humorous and satirical outlook on life, were welcomed with enthusiasm and appreciation, by those who knew and loved him.
Ronald's family would like to extend its gratitude to Ronald's neighbours and first responders, who were quick to respond when he fell ill, particularly, Stephanie Reid, who diligently performed CPR on him prior to the arrival of the paramedics.
In keeping with his wishes, Cremation has take place. A Funeral ("Celebration of Life") will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 2 p.m from Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove with Rev. Renee Easton officiating , followed by a final burial/inurnment at the St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery in Pound Cove.
As an expression of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations in Ronald's memory may be made to the St. Mary's Anglican Church Cemetery Fund, Pound Cove.
