Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald James Bungay, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He passed peacefully away on May 1, 2025 at the Leonard A Miller centre, surrounded by his loving family. Ron is predeceased by his cherished granddaughter, Trudy-Lynn Gill, parents Jim and Louisa (nee Green), parents-in-law Chris and Annie Sturge, brother Ben, sister Lorraine Hall, and brother-in-laws Walter Hall and Joe Stokes.

Left mourning are his loving wife of 60 years, Mona, children Louisa (John) Gill and Scott (Elaine), grand children Terry (Danielle) Gill, Olivia Bungay and Nicholas Bungay, great grand children, Abigail, Sebastian and Maelynn, sister-in-laws Sophie Stokes, Juanita (Mike) Bragg and Daisy Bungay, brother-in-law Cecil (Susie) Sturge, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews each of whom he adored.

Ron was born in Newtown, Bonavista Bay, where his love of the outdoors began. He had a passion for fishing and hunting that brought him countless friendships and memories over the years. He loved to tell his fishing and hunting stories, many of which featured his best friend and nephew Gordon Hall.

Ron was a family man to his core. He was dependable and always showed up for his family. The word "no" was not in his vocabulary which made him the best babysitter to each of his grandchildren, as well as his youngest niece and nephew, Jessica Bartlett and Christopher Bragg, who were like grandchildren to him. He always had a seat at every party, recital and sports game and was a personal downtown chauffeur for his late granddaughter Trudy-Lynn.

Ron's presence lit up every room that he walked into and to know him was to love him. His pleasant nature was infectious as was evidenced by the special bonds he formed with so many people over the years. He made friends easily and everywhere he went. He loved to laugh and make others laugh, often at his own expense. He always wore a smile and had a unique ability to stay young at heart. He will be forever missed and forever remembered.

A heart felt thanks goes out to the many doctors and nurses who cared for him especially Dr. Randy Hart, whom he considered a friend and would always see him at a moments notice.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken placed. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove 2-4 PM and 6:30-8 PM with a family memorial from 8-9 PM.  Funeral service will take place on Friday, May 9th, 2025 at 2 PM at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Newtown with Rev.
