Obituary

Reunited in the arms of his loving wife, Lucy Pickett (d. June 2012). Roland Straphnel Pickett, aged 90 years, passed peacefully away on November 8th surrounded by his family at Brookfield hospital. Roland was a very happy and outgoing person and lived his life to the fullest. One of Roland's greatest joys was his teaching career, he was always proud of his student's accomplishments far beyond the classroom. He loved a good joke, hunting and fishing, berry picking and playing cards with his friends.

He is predeceased by his daughter Rosalind Hunt (2021); sons in law Clayton Glover (2012), and Gordon Hunt (2018); sister Melina (1979); and brothers Moses Pickett (2014) and Eleazor Pickett (2021).

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his son Ivan Pickett (Bernadette); his daughters Ann Glover (Brian Squire) and Joan Rogers (Craig); 10 grandchildren Amy Cutler (Jamie), Debbie Keats (Kevin), Curtis Glover (Sabrina), Christina White (Bryan), Janetta Rogers, Andrew Pickett (Caroline), Gregory Hunt (Shania), Patrick Hunt (Hayley), Jolissa Rogers and John Rogers (Amanda); and 12 great-grandchildren as well as many extended relatives and friends. For the past 6 years Roland resided at Bonnews Lodge in Badgers Quay. We would like to extend our heart felt gratitude to the staff at Bonnews Lodge for your caring and kindness during his stay.

Visitation will take place at Kittiwake funeral home in Pound Cove on Wednesday November 10, 2021 from 1 - 4 and 7 - 9. Funeral service will take place at St. Barnabas Anglican church in Centerville on Thursday November 11, at 2 P.M. with Rev. Daphne Parsons officiating. Interment to follow at The Anglican Church Cemetery, Centreville. Due to Covid restrictions service will be by invitation only.

As an expression of sympathy flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Roland's memory to The Pickett Family. A decision on monetary disbursements will be made at a later date.

Visitation and funeral service will be in accordance with Covid -19 recommendations and guidelines.  As a friendly reminder please have your VaxPass available upon request.
