It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 in his home at Valleyfield, Roland John Hillier age 87 years.

Predeceased by his parents; Benjamin and Gertrude Hillier and sister-in-law; Virginia Hillier.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife; Florence, son; Derek (Sheila) of Valleyfield, daughter; Joyce Humphries (Herwin) of  Pound Cove, brother; Clyde of Mount Pearl, sister; Lorraine Hillier (Peter Stockley) of Valleyfield, grandchildren; Kayla Hillier (Paul Collins), Samantha Stagg (Justin) and Brittany Wiens (Benjamin), great-grandchildren; Spencer Collins, Paige Collins, Colby Stagg, Sawyer Wiens, niece; Karen Parsons (Scott) and a large circle of other relatives and many friends.

Roland was born in Brookfield on November 12, 1937. Roland met the love of his life, Florence White, in 1959. They were married on January 31, 1963. In September 1964 they had their first child, Derek, and six years later, in November 1970, they had their second child, Joyce.

They built a beautiful life together in Valleyfield. Roland spent his life away on the water working on the ships. He was a very hardworking man who provided greatly for his family. His family started to grow with three beautiful granddaughters that he adored greatly. At the age of 65 he retired from the water but still worked in his shed every day doing repairs on small engines. He had many, many friends that came to visit; too many to name. A few years after his retirement, his great-grandchildren came along, and he thought the world of them. He was blessed with four and two on the way. He will be sadly missed by many and always loved and remembered.

Funeral service will take place on Monday, January 20,2025 at 2 P.M. at Memorial United Church, Valleyfield with Rev. George Kean officiating.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Roland's memory to the Memorial United Church, Valleyfield.
