Robert was born at Fair Island, Bonavista Bay and dearly loved his island home. Robert was privileged in this life to have had a close relationship with all of his family, relatives, and friends. His love of family was near and dear to his heart. He loved his community (having served on St. Stephen Lodge S.U.F. No. 43; Town Council; Recreation Department; Volunteer Fire Department; and Museum Committee). He loved his church and had great respect for it (having served and volunteered tirelessly in many capacities within St. Barnabas Anglican Church and the Parish of Indian Bay). He loved playing the accordion and harmonica – many a Sunday after church service he could be heard playing the day's hymns at home on his accordion or harmonica). He loved the great outdoors (he cut wood, hunted, fished, and picked berries – all with a passion). He loved peddling around in his shed (he was a fixer of all things broken and enjoyed making things out of wood). Robert was very proud of his degree from Memorial University. He was a schoolteacher for 32 years and finished his career as Vice Principal at Centreville Academy. He taught all of his children, as well as his granddaughter, Jennifer, both in school and at home. He was fortunate and blessed to have enjoyed a long and healthy retirement.
