It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear loved one at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander on Saturday, June 23, 2018, Pastor Rex Boone in his 60th year of Musgrave Harbour, where he preached for the last 13 years.
Rex was born on "on a raft" (boat) at a Point Leamington wharf in 1958. He grew up in Cotrell's Cove. In 1979, after completing his schooling, he moved to Baie Verte to work at Advocate Mines as a drafter/surveyor. In January of 1980, while in hospital for minor surgery, he met a beautiful nurse who would become his wife in October. When the mines closed in 1981 he then had his own carpet & upholstery cleaning business. In 1982, Rex & Loretta would welcome their first child - a son named Jonathan. In May of 1985, within days of their daughter's birth, he would start work at Hope Brook Gold Mines as a surveyor. He would come home a week after their daughter - Janelle - was born to meet her for the first time.
While feeling the call of God upon his life, he would enter into full time ministry in August of 1986. He would begin ministry in Gaultois, Newfoundland (1986-1989), followed by Postville, Labrador (1989-1994), Rigolet, Labrador (1994-1997), St. Lewis/Fox Harbour, Labrador (1997-2000), Hickman's Harbour, Newfoundland (2000-2005), before moving to his final pastoral location of Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland in 2005 until his passing.
He was a man of God who lived what he preached. He loved his God first, family second, and then the great outdoors. He loved people and would build relationships that would last a lifetime - It didn't matter who you were, he would always treat you with love and respect. He was a community volunteer who was responsible for starting several breakfast programs in schools, volunteered with the local fire departments and was chaplain of his local fire department in Musgrave Harbour. He would help out wherever he was needed - from helping seniors, to helping with resources for the local youth center.
He is now with his Master and Saviour who he served and preached about for so many years.
Pre-deceased by his parents Warrick and Evelyn Boone, brother Wilbert and nephew Chad.
