Obituary

DAVIS, Minnie Rachel (nee Gibbons)

December 3, 1931 - October 14, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Minnie Rachel Davis of Gander announce that she passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at James Paton Memorial Hospital on October 14, 2022 at the age of 90 years.

Born in Trinity, Bonavista Bay, she lived many years in Churchill Falls where  she enjoyed cross country skiing, berry picking, going to her cabin and fishing. By her own account, she caught the largest lake trout ever caught in that area of Labrador. She was a curler in Churchill Falls and in later years she loved watching Brad Gushue's curling games; if Brad didn't win, she always defended him by saying that he was tired from all the games he played. Throughout all of her years she loved walking, especially in the woods and later around Gander with Claude and the little toy poodle Spencer. Even while living at Nightingale Manor, she was known for walking rapidly in the hallways.

Minnie was predeceased by her husband Claude Davis, her parents Cinderella and Nelson Gibbons, daughter Minnie Florence, sisters Nina and Sadie and brothers Stanley, Samuel, David and Gilbert.

Left to mourn with loving memories are her children Christine (Derek) Hillier, Claude Jr. (Sheri), Cynthia (Eric) Yetman, and Judy (Jim) Lambert; grandchildren Jason (Lori) Hillier, Chad (Lesley) Hillier, Melanie (Allan) Day, Brent (Janene) Hillier, Sherry (Patrick) Mallet, Jodie (Joseph) Randell, and Andrew (Cassandra) Davis; great-grandchildren Atticus, Ocean, Zachary, Annabelle, Parker, Erin, Joshua, Kathryn and Ryker; brother Jake and sister Mary Ann; sisters-in-law Florence and Mary; many nephews and nieces and other family and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Trinity, Bonavista Bay with Rev. Daphne Parsons officiating. Just prior to the service, Minnie's family will receive visitors between 1 pm and 2 pm at St. Alban's Anglican Church. Interment will follow at St. Alban's Anglican Church Cemetery, Trinity.

Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Minnie's memory may be made to St. Alban's Anglican Church, Trinity, Bonavista Bay.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Nightingale Manor, Minnie's special friend Lenore Pond, Dr. Gabriel, Dr. Woolridge and the medical staff at James Paton Memorial Hospital for the many kindnesses extended to Minnie.
