If there was a picture next to the word selfless in the dictionary you would
find a picture of Margaret. She loved her family, friends, and community
fiercely and with her whole heart. Throughout her life she was independent
and the pillar of our family. She comforted many and fed her loved ones
with the best homemade bread, cakes, beans, and of course, caramel tarts.
Nothing was ever a bother, no matter what time you got home after a late
night out she was waiting on the couch to make sure you were safe. Always
waiting with a smile and so happy to see you. She would eagerly travel near
and far to visit her family even when it was hard. She enjoyed a game of
Bingo and Skip Bo and often declared she wasn't going to bed until she won
one game.
She led a simple life and was always happy to offer the little she did have,
this often came in the form of a little secret money snuck to her beloved
grandkids, a bag of bake apples, or a bottle of mussels. She had a hard time
accepting when she was the one who needed help, until the very end of her
life she was so thankful for every act of service provided by family, friends,
and the amazing staff at James Paton Memorial Hospital.
As an expression of sympathy flowers (No Lilies because of severe Allergies) are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Margaret's memory to The Daffodil Place, St. John's.
