Maggie "Pearl"
Kean
June 9, 1932 – April 2, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay,
Maggie Pearl Kean age 92 years of Pound Cove, NL.
Maggie Pearl Kean (known as Pearl) was born on June 09, 1932 to Peter & Maggie Blackwood, Brookfield, NL.
After finishing her education, Pearl was then hired by the Wesleyville West End School as a Primary School teacher where she worked passionately for 4 years.
Then on June 18, 1953 at age 21, Pearl married Albert Kean of Pound Cove. Together they raised 4 children, Marjorie, George, Paul and Elizabeth.
Pearl would became very active in the work of the Anglican Church in Pound Cove. Her efforts supported the Sunday School, Ladies' Groups, Junior Auxiliary and she also volunteered over 50 years as church organist.
Pearl was very active in the community over the years. In the early days, she played a significant role in operating Kean's Restaurant in Pound Cove. She would often visit Otterbury Manor and Bonnews Lodge to participate in activities for residents. She loved to uplift the spirits of others and well-known to drop off a pie to anyone in need.
She enjoyed berry picking, bakeapples being her favorite right until the end. Pearl loved to make up skits and acting in concerts with her friends. At 70 years old, she would be seen taking her mat to the stadium in order to take part in fitness classes.
Pearl, along with the late Skipper Levi Davis, played a large role organizing the Recreation Committee in Pound Cove.
At Pearl's request, her closest and long-time friend from Brookfield, Nita Roberts, will be playing music during the service today. Nita has been a true friend, visiting Pearl regularly during her time at both the Otterbury Manor and Bonnews Lodge.
With all that said, Pearl's greatest treasure was her family, whom she loved so dearly. Family was everything, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all the extended family, she loved them all. As quoted directly from Pearl's writing, "The happiest times were with the children and seeing them go to church and seeing their love."
Pearl is predeceased by her husband; Albert Kean, parents; Peter and Maggie Blackwood, sisters; Marie, Julia, Stella, Irene, Mabel, Evelyn, brothers; Cyril Blackwood, George Blackwood and Baby Boy; Marcus Hall.
