Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one at her residence on Saturday, March 5, 2016 Louise Whalen age 93 years of Lumsden.

Louise was born April 5, 1922 in Ladle Cove NL to Samuel and Dora Pinsent. She had three brothers, Bill, Leslie, and Raymond and one sister Alma.

On October 14 1943 she married her partner in life Harry Whalen of Lumsden, NL where she became stepmother to his four children, Edgar, Josephine, Priscilla and Emma and soon welcomed six children of her own; one girl Shirley and five boys – Ford, Jack, Greg, Bruce, and Morris.

Louise was known for her hard work and dedication in caring for her family. She tirelessly cared for her Father and Mother-in-law until their deaths all while raising a large family and providing meals for a revolving door of visitors brought home by her husband Harry. She was also an extremely skilled crafter, producing intricate quilts for her entire extended family and making sure everyone had plenty of socks and mitts to keep them warm in the winter. Like the capable wife of Proverbs 31:13, 21:

Verse 13: "She obtains wool and linen; She delights to work with her hands."

Verse 21: "She does not worry about her household because of the snow, For her whole household is clothed in warm garments."

Louise Whalen passed away peacefully on Saturday the 5th of March 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She is predeceased by her husband Harry, her parents Samuel and Dora, her brothers Bill, Leslie, Raymond, her sister Alma and her two step-children Priscilla and Edgar. Left with fond and loving memories are her daughter Shirley (Rene) of Gander, her five sons – Ford (Wanda) of Gander, Jack (Patsy) of Lumsden, Greg (Norma) of Lumsden, Bruce (Susan) of Gander and Morris (Lyn) of Lumsden, stepchildren Josephine (Howard) of Lumsden and Emma (Manuel) of Lumsden.

Louise is also fondly remembered by her nephew, nieces, grandchildren, as well as many beloved great grandchildren who brought great joy to her in the later years.

Resting at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove. Funeral service will take place on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Lumsden at 2 PM with Mr. Len Ivany officiating. Internment to follow at the Jehovah's Witnesses Cemetery, Lumsden.
