"Llewellyn truly understood the meaning of hard work and love of family."
Llewellyn was Born on Silver Fox Island Bonavista Bay and moved with his wife and then 4 children, to Sou Wes Island, Badger's Quay in 1961. The home he built on Silver Fox Island was launched into the Bay, and towed there by boat. There, his family grew by 2 more children. In 1973, once again, his house was lowered into the water and towed to Centreville, where he lived until moving into a long term care facility in 2021, where he peacefully passed away.
Llewellyn was a carpenter by trade, a fisherman and Logger. In his early years he traveled to Labrador in schooners, working 20 hour a day for months. When he returned from Labrador he then went to work in the woods, using a bucksaw, from sun up to sundown. Hard work was all he ever knew, and he did it gladly to provide for his family. He was a Jack of all trades as any situation warranted. He was dedicated to his family and worried about his children and grandchildren all his life.
Llewellyn had a love for music, he played several instruments, including guitar, accordion, and harmonica. While living on Silver Fox Island he would play at dances to entertain his family and friends. He loved old country music, like Wilf Carter, Hank Williams, and many more. His children grew up listening to him play and sing. His voice and music will be a memory they will carry throughout their lives, and will greatly miss.
Despite his hard life of labor he also had a dry sense of humor that kept the family laughing with his funny comments he'd make, while hardly cracking a smile; while everyone else were in stitches. He was very intelligent, and had a no nonsense type of character. "Get the job done," was his motto. He was the Patriarch of the family. He made decisions with consideration for the people involved, intelligence, common sense, and experience. His decisions were respected and never questioned. The family followed his lead without question and absolute trust.
Predeceased by his parents Tom and Emma (Brown), his wife of 57 years, Ella ( Pickett), sons, Roy and Job, son in law Harvey Grimes, Brother Percy, and sister Myrtle Button
Left to mourn, his sons, Carl (Neta), Calvin (Gladys Benoit), daughters, Gail Grimes, and Lisa Fraser (Harold), Sisters, Susie (Cecil Sturge) and Mary (Alvin Grimes), sisters-in-law Trixie, and Irene Paul, brother-in-law Jesse Button, daughters-in-law, Christine Hunt, Cathy Payne and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Gander Long Care for their compassion and dedicated care of their Dad. In the words of the man himself, you were his precious Jewels.
