Obituary

As quietly as she lived, Joan Christine (Fowlow) Cross slipped into eternal rest on Monday, October 26 th at home in Badger's Quay in the presence of her husband, George and daughter, Florence. She will be fondly remembered by nearly everyone she met as a woman of quiet spiritual conviction and unsurpassed generosity and inclusivity.

Joan was born to Freeman and Hilda (Andrews) Fowlow at Port de Grave on October 19, 1934 a baby sister to Harry and Florence. Her world be shattered very early as her mom passed on Christmas Eve -little Joan was two months old. This event would mold a future character trait as she would express a motherly love for all in need.

In September of 1954, a new teacher arrived at Leading Tickles. George Cross attracted her attention and a 65-year love narrative was initiated. They adventured to Chance Cove, Leading Tickles, Greenspond, Valleyfield, Badger's Quay and a Hermit Cove farm. Children arrived in the form of Eli(Jocelyn), Elizabeth, Florence(Irene) and Bill(Joanne). Tragically baby Elizabeth died at 16 days in 1959.

Joan loved children and they were attracted to her loving and giving spirit. As other grandmothers passed, she innately became the Nanny to Pig Island children. She cherished these relationships, and many miss her today.

Her true grandchildren, all boys – Matthew(Nicole), Jeremy, Ryan(Shannon) and Devon(Teanna) keep fond memories of Nan's gentle generosity and the aroma of freshly baked bread and delicious home-made fries. Her face would light up for the next generation as Claire, Carter and Brianna entered our lives within the last six years, another great grandson will make his appearance in early 2021.

As a family of a lady of great silent faith, we are confident that she has reunited with her darling Elizabeth and Jeremy's smiling eyes were her heavenly homeward beacons.

Today those that remain behind need no individual attention, we are many united by one very strong bond, our love for a wife, mother, nan, aunt and friend. Our love never ends so you never die in our hearts.
