It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Eldon James Rideout, aged 96 years, formerly of Cape Freels, announce his peaceful passing on Friday, May 1, at Dr. Y. K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre, Brookfield.

Jim was a devoted brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Affectionately known as "Poppy Jim", he was a man of deep family values who cherished time spent with loved ones. Cape Freels, "The Cape", held a special place in his heart, where he enjoyed visiting lifelong friends. He also possessed a passion for writing poetry, reflecting on his own personal experiences. His legacy of love, kindness and creativity will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by his wife Alice; parents, Llewellyn and Hettie Rideout; stepmother, Mabel Rideout; brother Winston Rideout and daughter Greta Perry.

Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his sister Palma of Toronto, his daughter, Hettie (Robert); sons, Clifford (Carol-Ann) and Rodney (Trudi), all of Greenspond; Tony (Lily), Harvey (Diane), Roger, Ricky, and Walter all of Newtown; and his son-in-law Norman Perry of Newtown.

He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Tracy, Tina, Susan, Tammy, Cara, Courtney, Jason, Corey, Bradley, Tristan, Shane, Travis, Tommy, and Terri; as well as 25 great-grandchildren, in addition to a large circle of extended family and friends.

Visitation will take place at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove.

Saturday, 2pm - 4pm (Family) & 7pm - 9pm (Public)

Sunday, 2pm - 4pm & 7pm - 8:30pm (Public) & 8:30pm - 9pm (Family)

The funeral service will take place on Monday, May 4, at 2 pm from Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove, with Rev. Lorne Bungay and Rev. Roberta Vincent-Bungay officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Cemetery, Newtown.

In keeping with the family's wishes, no flowers are requested.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Rideout Family who will decide on monetary disbursements at a later date.
