June 8, 1943 – December 2, 2024
Jake Humphries, age 81, passed peacefully away at home in Torbay surrounded by his family
on Monday, December 2nd, 2024.
Predeceased by his parents Carman and Johannah Humphries, brother Lester Humphries,
sister Anne Knight, brother Martin Humphries, sister Margaret Mitchell, sister-in -law Margaret Humphries , parents-in-law Douglas
and Margaret Gray and nephew Dean Gray.
Left with a lifetime of cherished memories is his wife and best friend of 61 years, Ada Humphries
(Gray); children Jeff (Sharon) and Joanne (Claude); grandchildren Patrick, Andrew (Lane),
Jordan (Takeytha) and Chantel (Justin); great-grandchildren Jacob, Alexis, Colton, Lucy and
Emmerson; brother Ray (Joyce), brother Lindsay and sister Emma (Don); sisters in-law
Elizabeth, Sherry (Bob) and Carolann (Ken); brothers in-law Paul (Mary), Irvin, Vince and Walt
(Heather); lifelong friends Wood and Thelma; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended
family and friends.
Jake was a dedicated teacher, spending 30 years in the profession teaching a wide range of
students in grade 4. He often spoke about his experiences while obtaining his degree from
Memorial University and stories from his classroom in Memorial Academy. In his spare time, he
enjoyed being on the water, hunting with friends, and volunteering with the Wesleyville Fire
Department. Coaching hockey was a passion of his, as well as being a longtime fan of the
Detroit Red Wings. During retirement Jake enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and
great grandchildren who brought him so much light and joy. He will be dearly missed by all who
loved him.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Megan Robbins and niece Deanne
Smith, for their kindness and care over the past few months
Cremation has taken place, and the family will receive visitors at Kittiwake Funeral Home, on
Friday, December 6th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm -9pm and Saturday, December 7th from 10am-
1pm. Family service to take place Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in his
memory to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
