Howard Elmore Parsons
October 27, 1929 – February 19, 2023
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many.
Leaving to mourn with loving memories his devoted wife of 72 years, Josephine, his sons: David (Mildred), Larry (Brenda) and Jim (Angela), and daughters: Rose (Calvin), Myra (Wilfred), Della (Anthony), and Beulah (Paul), fifteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
Howard was predeceased by his parents, Garfield and Josephine Parsons; his sisters: Zeta, Beatrice, Lydia, and Julie (Alex Skidnuk, deceased), and Ruth (Lemuel Goodyear, deceased); and his brothers: Clifford, Harry (Beatrice Hatcher, deceased), and Joseph (Ivy Hatcher deceased).
Howard was a loving and caring husband and father who dearly loved and appreciated his family and cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a hard-working man who would seldom rest. Early in the mornings he could be found in the woods cutting firewood. His other passion was his boat and would often be seen sailing around the harbour, or the islands. He was always at the wharf ready to take the line when his son, Larry, came into to dock with his fishing boat, the Challenger 2000.
Howard's warm heart and outgoing personality resulted in his making many lifelong friendships.
Among Howard's passions was a love for music and he would often be heard singing around the house. He also loved to make people laugh by making funny comments, pulling someone's leg, or doing humorous things.
Howard was very appreciative of the kind acts of others and would frequently thank family members and caregivers for their assistance and loving care. He took great pride in his appearance and that of his property.
During his lifetime he worked at a diverse number of jobs, working in his family-owned sawmill in his youth, later he worked as a fisherman, mechanic, and provincial park warden for nearly 30 years at Windmill Bight provincial park in Lumsden. He was also owner/operator of several small businesses in Lumsden, contractor-owner truck driver during road construction in the 50's, and later worked on highway maintenance, owned a small restaurant/games arcade and shared ownership in a small local bar, the Cat Harbour Lounge.
Our family would like to extend sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to his caregivers over the years, especially Tracey and Alana who so lovingly cared for him during his declining health. As well, heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, 3 rd floor medical, and to his doctor, Dr. Jennifer Sin Yan Too for their compassionate care, concern and kindness shown to our dad and family – it will never be forgotten.
