Hon. Derrick
Boyd Bragg
August 14, 1964 – January 22, 2024
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we the family of the Honourable Derrick Boyd Bragg, Minister and MHA for the District of Fogo Island Cape Freels announce his passing on January 22, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He left this world peacefully in the loving embrace of his family and with the knowledge that he was in the hearts and prayers of his friends and constituents.
Derrick is predeceased by his father Stuart Bragg.
Leaving to mourn with fond memories and broken hearts wife Beverley; daughter Allison (Kevin Darcy) of Mt. Pearl; precious grandson Drew; mother Amelia Bragg of Greenspond, brother Clyde Bragg (Diane) of Greenspond, nieces, nephews and a large circle of other family members and many friends.
Derrick was born and raised in Greenspond NL and was fiercely proud to be a "bayman" and even though his professional life would take him to great heights he would always remain a humble small town boy.
Derrick would meet Beverley, (the love of his life) when they were only children and the two were married in 1989. Together they would have one daughter Allison who completed their small family. She was his pride and joy, Daddy's little girl. That love for her only intensified when Allly gave birth to their only grandson Drew. Poppy was now his new favourite title. No matter how many accolades he achieved (and there would be many) being husband to Bev, father to Allison and poppy to Drew was his ultimate honour. He was a devoted family man.
Derrick was known for his hard working nature. He could put his hand to anything and was always helping others. He had a great sense of pride and a deep love for his community of Greenspond and was a
longtime volunteer. Derrick worked tirelessly for his province as well in many portfolios, among his favourite the last Portfolio he held as Minister for FFA this role saw him doing so many things that he loved to do.
The saying goes "to know him, is to love him" and that quote summed him up perfectly. When Derrick entered a room it lit up. His smile and his sense of humour endeared him to everyone. He made difficult tasks easier to deal with, his rapport with his public unmatched.
Recently Derrick remarked to his family that he'd had a good life. Indeed he had, loved by so many.
We can take a page from Derrick's book and on the last line it should read:
Smile more, worry less. Love deeply as I Have.
A service of remembrance and celebration for Derrick's life will take place on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 1 p.m. from St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Greenspond with Bishop John Watton and Rev. Renee Easton officiating.
As an expression of sympathy flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in Derrick's memory may be made to
