Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband,father, and grandfather,on Tuesday , August 3,2021 at Dr. Y. K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre, Brookfield, Gerald Roland Lawrence Stokes age 80 years of Wesleyville.

Gerald was born in Cape Freels on March 10th, 1941. He began his teaching career in Noggin Cove at the age of 17. He taught in Cape Freels, Wesleyville Memorial, Channel Port Aux Basques, Little Bay East, Lumsden , and finished his 30 year career at Lester Pearson Memorial High in 1990. Gerald touched the lives of many students during his career.
Gerald was an avid outdoorsman who loves salmon fishing with his buddies, moose hunting, bird hunting and berry picking. He was known by many as an expert Fly Tyer and probably best known for his Blue Charms and Renegades.

Predeceased by parents Ernest and Clara Stokes, special uncle Randolph Stokes, infant grandson Matthew Hillier.


Gerald is survived by his wife of 57 years Ruby (Scott), son Brad (Patsy Marshall), daughter Cindy (Sid Hillier), grandsons Mark Hillier(Taylor Smith), Daniel Hillier(Amanda Keeping), granddaughter Bailey Stokes, sisters Florence (Gord Jackson) of Cavendish and Susan (Sid Burry) of St. John's.

In keeping with Gerald's wishes cremation will take place.

Visitation will take place at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from Noon - 12:30 (Family Only) and 12:30 - 2pm (Public), followed by funeral service at 2:30pm with Rev. L. Daka and Rev. L. Bungay officiating. Inurnment to take place at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of one's choice.


A special thanks to neighbors Bob Kelloway, Wayne Bruce and Family friend Wallace Winsor  during Gerald's illness. Thanks to the staff of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Rev. Daka and Rev. Lorne Bungay.

Visitation and funeral service will be in accordance to Covid-19 recommendations and guidelines.
