With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Fern Stokes, age 65 of Deadman's Bay, surrounded by her loving family at the Dr. Y. K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre in Brookfield on Friday, October 9, 2026. She will be remembered as a woman of strength, kindness, and deep devotion to her family. A very hard worker, Fern earned the respect of her employers and coworkers throughout her life. She was someone people could depend on and trust, and that steady reliability became one of the qualities for which she was so warmly known.
Fern loved the outdoors and found joy in the beauty of nature. She was known for her wonderful hospitality and for the many friendships she treasured over the years. Her love for family was at the heart of her life, and being a loving mother was especially important to her. In recent years, she faced many health challenges with immense strength and determination, meeting each day with resilience and reliance that inspired those around her.
She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her partner, Melvin; her sons, Joshua (Maggie), and Keith (Angelina); her sisters, Mildred (Newman), Iona (Eldon), Marilyn, Neta (Robert), Sarah (Sandy), and Ada (Terry); her brothers, Ross (Mary), and Donald (Denise); her mother-in-law, Florence; her sisters-in-law, Karen, Betty, and Cathy; her brothers-in-law, Randy (Sharon), and Curtis (Joanne); as well as a large circle of other relatives and many friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Fern was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Peter; her father-in-law, Richard; her brother, Terry; and her brothers-in-law, Leslie, Rayburn, Warrick, and Walter.
Her memory will live on in the love she shared, the care she gave so freely, and the lasting impression she made on family, friends, and all who crossed her path.
