Eugene Overton
Chaulk
November 9, 1939 – June 30, 2024
Passed away after a ridiculously short attack of the vicious monster that was metastatic cancer, Eugene Overton Chaulk at the age of 84 and surrounded by his devastated family.
He was diagnosed on June 24, 2024 and gained release from cancer on June 30, 2024.
He is predeceased by his father, Elias Chaulk and Marjorie (Maisie) Chaulk, his brother-in-law Glenn Coles, sister Florrie and, just three short weeks before his death, by his sister, Irene Coles.
Left to mourn with broken hearts are his wife of almost 58 years, Shirley Chaulk, daughter Tina (Vince), son Derrick (Tammy), grandsons Evander, Sam and Ben, sister Beryl West, niece Lori West (Sheldon) and nephew Boyde Coles (Nancy).
Eugene spent his life working hard, never with a word of complaint or a bad word said about anyone. He built his house with his own hands while working full time at the Department of Highways as a heavy-equipment mechanic which meant late-night calls in blizzards then working in the snow and slush to get the equipment back to plowing and salting the roads.
Eugene gave love quietly and freely--never being showy about it or making a big deal about it. He provided complete care for his wife for the past three years after an accident left her unable to do most of the things she once did. He showed his children and grandchildren constant unconditional love in such a way that, at the end, when his ability to communicate with words was so limited, there was never a doubt about his love for them because he had spent his life telling them and showing them they were loved in the biggest and smallest of ways.
Eugene and Shirley had recently moved to Orem's Bethesda Manor 1 and Eugene's family would like to thank the staff and other residents for their caring and kindness, especially in the most recent days as they spent time supporting and visiting Shirley.
Also many thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at James Paton Memorial Hospital, especially the patient and brilliant Janny Pham.
In lieu of flowers donations in Eugene's memory may be made to Bethel United Church, Aspen Cove, NL.
Cremation has taken place. A service will take place at a later date.
