It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our loved one Elias Jacob (Jake) Gibbons on May, 22, 2026, at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander, NL at the age of 90 years. (Originally of Trinity Bonavista Bay).

Predeceased by his parents Nelson Gibbons (originally of Fair Island, NL) & Cinderella Gibbons (nee Wiseman) (originally of Hare Bay, NL); son-in-law Kirk Norris; sisters Nina Pickett (Ammon), Sadie Roberts (Charlie), Minnie Davis (Claude) and Mary-Ann Hesko (Joseph); brothers Stanley (Maude), Samuel (Louise), David and Gilbert (Yvonne); sister-in-law Irene (Dolly) Brown; brothers-in-law Theodore Bungay, Owen Bungay and Whytefield Brown; nephew Eugene (Genie).

Jake leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, the love of his life Florence – wife of 68 years; children Brenda Hunt (Ronnie) of Oshawa, ON., Bonita Norris of Trinity, B. Bay, NL, Wanda Vincent (Jerry) of Wareham, NL, Darlene Gover (Randy) of Trinity, B. Bay, NL, Curlene Drake (Barry) of St. John’s, NL, David (Roxanne) of St. Lawrence, NL and Warrick (Andrea) of Oshawa, ON.; sister-in-law Mary Gibbons, Violet Bungay and Hazel Bungay; brothers-in-law Gerald Bungay (Emma), Eugene Bungay (Phyllis) and Ricky Bungay;

Grandchildren: Michelle (Shawn), Chadwick, Robin, Kristopher, Justin (Sarah), Corey (Tayler), Jessica, Ashley (Jordan), Joshua, Travis (Courtney), Victoria, Tyler (Rachaele) & Kyla (Mckinley)

Great Grandchildren: Courtney (Brandon), Kyle (Chelsea), Kayden, Jacey, Logan, Alicia, Trinity, Maya, Nikki, Landon, Eleanor, Emerson, Alexandra & Everly

Great-Great Grandchild: Emery

As well as a wide circle of loving relatives and friends.

As per Dad’s wishes, cremation will take place.

No public visitation

Celebration of Life Service on May 27, 2026 @ 11a.m. St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Trinity B. Bay, NL. Reverend Maxine Abbott officiating

A Graveside Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Celebration of Life Service will be live streamed on the Anglican Parish of Indian Bay Facebook page starting @ 11 a.m.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Diabetics Association or to the St. Alban’s Church Cemetery Fund.

Special thank you to Oncologist, Dr. Oliver Holmes and the Cancer Care Team at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s and the Doctor’s and Nurses of James Paton Memorial Hospital who took such great care of Dad during his long courageous battle with cancer. To the staff of Oram’s Birchview Manor at Glovertown, NL where Dad had resided along with Mom for the past 18 months, your caring support of our loved ones will never be forgotten. You will always remain in our hearts for the kindness you have shown.
