Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on Thursday, August 25, 2022 Edwin Jeremiah "Jerry" Gillingham age 81 years of Wareham.

Jerry is predeceased by his parents Steward Stanley Gillingham and Amelia Parsons; step-mom Edith Gillingham(Spurrell).

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife of 61 years, Eva; sons Perry (Jeannine) and Donald; daughters Louise, Brenda and Beverley (Steven); grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Brittany, Kyle, Derek, Julia, Cameron and Olivia; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Jackson, Rylan, Noah, Tristan, Arianna, Viada, Carter, Oaklee and Lynkon; honorary daughter Margie Oldford; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Jerry was born in Indian Bay, NL to his loving parents Steward Gillingham and Amelia Parsons. Jerry was later raised for a couple of years by Adam and Hannah Parsons until his dad married his step-mom Edith Gillingham who did a wonderful job of raising him until he met the love of his life, Eva. On July 27, 1961 they were married and spent 61 years together and had 5 wonderful children.

Jerry first worked in Indian Bay on the barker and logging. He later moved to Ontario where he worked for Indusam Industry for 40 years until his retirement.

He was a loving husband and father who worked very hard to provide the best life he could for his wife and children. Years later Jerry became the best Granda to his 8 grandchildren and the best Poppy to 10 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Jerry was a wonder brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to all. He came home once a year from Ontario to spend time with all his family and friends that meant so much to him. Jerry also shared a lot of love and his witty sense of humor with his Home Support Workers Margie Oldford, Ann Pickett, Amanda Brown, Denise Button and all others that filled in from time to time. We cannot thank you all enough for the love and care provided to Jerry over the years. A special goodbye from Margie.

Until we meet again. Aye, Aye Captain Jack.

At Jerry's request cremation has taken place.

Funeral service will take place at St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, Wareham on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Renee Easton officiating.

As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory can be made to The Gillingham family. A decision on monetary disbursements will be made later.
