Donald
Carter
October 20, 1926 – July 18, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear loved one on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, Eric Donald Carter age 92 years of Badger's Quay.
Predeceased by his wife Barbara; brothers and sisters Stella Johnson (Gordon), Edward (Alfreda), Sarah, Frank (Pearl) and Claude (Marguerite).
Don Carter was born on October 20th, 1926 to James and Eliza Carter of Badgers Quay. On November 15th, 1962 he married Barbara Vincent of Cape Island and they had one daughter Roxane.
Don spent his earlier years working on a schooner travelling along the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. While his final years of work was spent at Beothic Fish plant, Don would often regale his family and friends with tales and stories of all his adventures from his working years.
First and foremost, Don was a family man, a loving husband, caring father and wonderful grandfather. A fond memory that has stayed with his daughter Roxane over the years involves a school outing and a toboggan. Roxane was 7 or 8 at the time when she was going to go sliding, but she didn't own a toboggan, Don drove to Lumsden (Robbins store), bought a new toboggan and brought it to his little girl up on the pond. This simple exchange between a father and daughter has left a lasting memory for Roxane.
Don spent his retirement exploring every crook and cranny of Newfoundland and Labrador in their truck camper. He enjoyed travelling and they would frequently visit Ontario to spend some time with his sister Stella and her boys. His granddaughters have many cherished memories from the camper and trips to Trinity Loop.
Don was a simple man, he had a love for the outdoors. Often times his neighbors of Sou Wes Island would find him sitting in his lawn chair outside his store door. He took great joy in growing his spuds, carrots, and onions. Don enjoyed his feed of Chinese food, a favorite he'd often have for his birthdays. He also has had many meals of salt fish and bakeapples, two of his favorites.
But above all, Don enjoyed spending time with his family. Whether this involved sitting and watching Cornation Street with his wife and daughter, taking silly pictures with Stephanie or carving his first pumpkin with Heidi. He was always up for a good time and laugh.
In his passing he leaves behind his daughter Roxane Abbott (Ellis) and his two granddaughters Stephanie (Curtis) And Heidi; sisters-in-law Milly Wheaton and Annie Vincent.
Don will be missed by all who knew him.
Together again with his beloved Barbara.
