Obituary

Cyril Maxwell Blackwood
(October 1, 1933 - October 20, 2022)
It is with much love and sadness that the family of Cyril Maxwell Blackwood announce his passing on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the age of 89. His devotion to his family was unyielding, his virtues of patience, gentleness and kindness will always be remembered.

Cyril was born and raised in Brookfield and married the true love of his life (Marina) in December 1952. He was a true family man ! Despite his strong work ethic family came first and he took them for drives and picnics on Sundays, fishing for trout and picking berries for hours. There was always fun around Cyril because he wore such a happy smile, played fun practical jokes and often put on costumes. He and Marina truly enjoyed having family and friends drop in, play cards and you had to have a meal or lunch. All children had a special place in his heart, and they loved him for his fun-loving ways of playing.

Having a vegetable garden was a hobby he loved nearly as much as sharing his harvest with others. He also had a love for animals and birds and brought home injured birds to mend and set free.

Cyril worked with the Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator and was known to have the best kept roads.

Cyril was predeceased by his wife Marina Blackwood (Spurrell), daughter Maggie, parents Peter & Maggie Blackwood, brother George (Olive), sisters Julia (Don), Marie (Jack), Irene (Don), Evelyn (Spencer) and Stella (Bill). He is survived by his children Mabel O'Quinn (Joe) of Mount Pearl, Joyce Roebotham (Ken) of Brookfield and son Bill Blackwood (Linda) of Paradise; Grandchildren Jamie (Rhonda), Jennifer (Doug), Melissa (Trevor), Heather (Perry), Mark and Bethany; Great-grandchildren Caleb, Rachel, Perry, Kiley, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Jaida, Jenessa, Easton, Naomi and Harrison; Sisters Pearl Kean, Marjorie Kells, as well as many nieces and nephews and close friends whom he cherished.
