December 28, 1949 – January 10, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his residence in Centreville, Churnside Bungay age 71 years.
Churnside was born in Round Harbour, Bonavista Bay, NL on December 28, 1949 to parents Lester and Emma Bungay. He was a graduate of Memorial University and spent some of his earlier years as a high school teacher. In later years he spent time working in business but then returned to continue in his former profession, mainly doing substitute work. Chur, as he was commonly known by most people, had a deep interest in politics.
Predeceased by his common law spouse Bessie Rogers, parents Emma and Lester Bungay, parents-in-law Beatrice and Alexander Rogers, brother-in-law Edgar John Hunt and sister-in-law Sheila Bungay. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his brothers Robert and Lester (Jill), sisters Gladys and Grace (Andrew), brother-in-law Clayton Rogers (Grace), neices Selma, Sharone, Lori, Shauna, Colleen and Connie, nephews Darrin and Bradley and as well as a wide circle of other family members and friends.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions and recommendations, visitation and funeral service will be by invitation only.
Visitation will be held at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 12 Noon - 4 P.M.
Funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Centreville with Rev. Daphne Parsons officiating. Interment will follow at St. Barnabas Anglican Church cemetery, Centreville.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to The Bungay Family and a decision on monetary disbursements will be made at a later date.
