Obituary

With a heavy heart and with great sadness, the Sturge and Gibbons family wishes to announce
the peaceful passing of Cheryl Wanda Sturge on Monday, June 12th, 2023 at James Paton
Memorial Hospital, Gander.
Predeceased by her twin daughters Sarah and Susan; Parents Nita and Clayton Gibbons;
Sister-in-Law Marge Gibbons.
Cheryl leaves to mourn her husband Donald; Son Mark (Kristi Bourne) of Gander; Brothers Rex
of St. John's, Calvin (Barbara Hutchings) of Mount Peal, Randy (Trix Churchill) of Lumsden,
Boyd (Elaine Ivany) of St. John's; Brother-in-Law Bill (Paula Brown) of Valleyfield; Sisters
Glenys (Nelson Harris) of Mount Pearl, Lucy (Art Norris) of Mount Pearl; Grandchildren Jaxson
and Levi Sturge; Grandpuppy Jigger; and a large circle of family and friends.

Cheryl fought her illness with tremendous courage, bravery and determination and strived to live
life to the fullest every day with the support of her loving family and friends.
In her work career,
Cheryl was comptroller with Beothic Fish Processors Ltd and she was proud to have dedicated
herself to such a great company. Both Cheryl and her husband Don loved to travel whenever
health permitted and they took full advantage of this when possible. Cheryl always liked to
support her community and found time over the years, during her busy work life, to be a Sunday
School teacher and a member (once president) of the Badger's Quay Lioness Club. She dearly
loved to play cards with her close net Rummoli group of friends. However, as her health
declined, over the past few months, her love and support of family and close friends sustained
her. The joy of connecting daily with son Mark's family and her grandsons Jaxson and Levi
became the special highlight of her day.
Cheryl's moto was – "C-Cancer cannot break my spirit; A- always turn the negative into a
positive; N-never let it take my sense of humour; C- crying is okay, but don't let it consume me;
E-every day is a precious gift; R- rally around positive people (family and friends). And, If you do
all of this, Cancer is not such a scary thing."
In lieu flowers please give any donations to the charity of your choice in her memory. Any
donations given in her memory will be shared between two of her favorite charities; Daffodil Place
and Ronald McDonald House.
