Carrie Louise Elliott (née Andrews) passed away peacefully at the Health Science Center, St. John's, in the presence of her loving family on January 29, 2024, at the age of 92.
Born on Cape Island, Carrie was the fifth of eight children of the late Noah and Emma Andrews.
She is predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Howard Elliott of Newman's Cove; her three sisters: Rita Perry, Myra Randell, and Annie Tiller; and two brothers: Zebedee, and Walter. Sons in law Bennie Rimando and Bob Powers.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her four children: Max (Dot), Sylvia Powers, Cheryl Powers (Vic), and Paul (Jeannie); 10 grandchildren: Sherry (Dave), Angela (Darren), Amanda (Gerry), Melissa, Carrie (Justin), Kathryn, Lisa (Adam), Meghan (Jason), Felix and Spencer; 7 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Kyle, Natalie, Chelsea, Emmy, Clark, and Jacob; two sisters: Mildred Hillier and Edna Kroone; sister-in-law, Robin Andrews, brother-in-law, Joe Tiller , also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Carrie embraced her role as the matriarch of our family with grace and dedication. The nurturing of her family was her true calling. Devoting herself to the care of her Father in his later years, she embodied the values of love and familial duty that were central to her character.
Her commitment and support extended through generations, making her a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Alongside her husband, Howard, she raised her family in Newtown, Bonavista Bay, residing close to the families of her brothers and sisters. This intentional proximity created a bond that deepened over the years, transforming family gatherings into celebrations of love, laughter, and shared memories.
Friends and family will recall the harmony within their home, where music filled the air with Carrie on the organ and Howard on the accordion – both gifted musicians with talents developed by ear. The scent of freshly baked bread and the beauty of Carrie's meticulously tended garden, a source of immense pride, added to the warmth of their household.
Carrie's exceptional memory, remaining sharp well into her 90s, stood as a testament to her vibrant mind and the rich experiences she held dear. Her legacy, etched in the hearts of her family, is a tribute to a life well-lived, resonating like the soothing melodies of her organ. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, may her memory serve as a source of inspiration and comfort for all those who were touched by her love and grace.
