Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, St. John's on Sunday, February 27, 2022 Caroline Gibbons of Trinity.

Caroline Gibbons (neé King) was born on December 15, 1937 in Lamaline, NL. She passed at the age of 84 in St. John's, NL to spend eternity with the love of her life, Silas John Gibbons.

Caroline (Carrie) spent her childhood on the Burin Peninsula and remained there until she met Silas, a handsome sailor who happened to be in town. She took a chance on him and, from that point on, he was her home. Carrie and Silas shared 64 happy and loving years of marriage together. She loved Silas beyond measure and was truly grateful for all the love and support he showed her through their marriage.

Carrie cherished her family above all else. Her and Silas dedicated their lives to their five children, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She made sure every corner of her home was adorned with family keepsakes and photos. She proudly told stories and humbly boasted about her family's accomplishments whenever the opportunity arose, and sometimes even when it did not. What she did better than anything was keep her family connected. When physical distances grew and life got busy, she remained the anchoring point everyone reached out for and held onto to stay together.

Carrie found joy in beauty of the world and created her own wherever she went. She immaculately decorated (and often redecorated) her home, loved having flowers and plants in all her spaces, and took pride in her appearance, dressing smartly and ensuring not a hair was out of place if she had somewhere to be.

Carrie's family and friends will fondly remember her warm and welcoming nature, her kind heart, her bright blue eyes twinkling whenever she was pleased, her tut that was often followed with a sly wink and nod of approval, and her true gift of gab. She was deeply loved and we will miss our mother, nan, great-grandmother, aunt, and dear friend.

Carrie was pre-deceased by her husband, Silas, mother Emily, grandparents George and Mary Anne, brother Frank, and sister Barbara. She is survived by her children, daughters Melita (Dwight), Ruth (Scott), Paulette (Roger), Marilyn (David - deceased), and son Eldred (Charly), her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a large circle of dear nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made in Carrie's memory to the St. Alban's Anglican Church, Trinity, Bonavista Bay North, NL. Carrie's family and friends would like to sincerely extend our gratitude to the staff at St. Patrick's Mercy Home and Dr. O'Shea and Dr. Ennis for providing her care and comfort.
