Obituary

Brenda Irene Short

September 17, 1960 - July 6, 2024

It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful and beloved Brenda at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, NL on Saturday, July 6, 2024 after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer.

Predeceased by her father; Peter Parsons (July 6, 2023).

Brenda leaves with broken hearts, mother; Ada, husband; Wayne, daughter; Amy (Justin)," the most special son"; Delavan Peter (DB) and step-son; Tyler, brothers; George (Shermaine) and Peter (Megan), sister; Michelle (Wayne), grandchildren; Brandan, Shayne, Aaran, Bentley and Carter, great-grandchildren; Annabella and Aria, uncle Harvey (Pauline), as well a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many friends.

Brenda's life was lived in such a way that whoever met her would want to know her more and have a deeper relationship with her. Her angelic and bubbling personality attracted us to her. It was as if she had so much to offer and to show us and she did .

Brenda spent 33 years as the most compassionate and loving mom to her special son (DB). Every possible need a special child had, Brenda fulfilled that need with an abundance of motherly love and a soul filled with compassion. As much as we would consider this a challenge, for Brenda it was a privilege and an honour to be Mom to (DB). Brenda was a special mom to Amy as well, not only were they mom and daughter, but best friends as well. They often sought each other for support and encouragement.

Brenda's love for others was so inspiring. She was motivated by a vision of seeing others who required compassion, love and care as well.

At a young age of 49 she enrolled in the Comprehensive Arts and Science Transition Program (Prerequisite) which would permit her to enroll in the Licensing Practical Nursing Program (LPN).

Brenda's objective was to excel in her studies and with her ambitious mind and soul , she came out on top. She was licensed as a Practical Nurse and impacted so many lives, not only those whom she cared for (Residents/ Patients/ Clients) but those who witnessed her work ethic and her desire to give her best. Her standards were high. Her will and desire to ease emotional and physical discomfort was her goal. Breaktimes and lunchtimes were put aside and her time would be used to continue her care for others in need. That is how Brenda's Legacy is remembered.

Her family, church families, friends, co-workers, colleagues and all those whom Brenda met in her rewarding journey through life is celebrating and remembering Brenda as one who demonstrated love, kindness, gentleness, compassion, inclusion and patience in its highest form. Many lives have been impacted and changed by her genuine and gentle personality. It is because of who Brenda was and for those whom she embraced, maybe in some small way she has made each of us a better person today because of her example of Faith and Hope and her inspiring us in our journey.

Brenda was special to God, for sure she was special to us as well for her life and the way she made our lives more special. We give heartfelt gratitude to God for sharing this special person, our beloved Brenda with us.

We pray that as God used her in special ways to be a blessing to each of us, we will make it our goal to continue and give that genuine  and special love and care to those who are waiting. Your spirit and our precious memories we have of you will go on living in us.

Thank You Brenda, Thank You God!

And he arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, "Peace be still" and the wind ceased and there was great Calm. (Mark 4:9)
