It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we the family of Alva Bungay announce her passing on September 17, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family.

Alva was born to Daisy and Benjamin Bungay of Newtown, the beloved baby girl and only daughter among a family of boys. She held a special place in the hearts of her brothers and was known for her strong personality and her love of family.

Alva spent much of her working life in St. John’s, but always returned home to Newtown to spend time with her family and friends. She was hardworking, independent, and could make a friend wherever she went. She loved to have a good chat, shop, and was always ready for a good laugh.

She shared her life with Glenn Norris and together they had one daughter, Courtney. Her heart grew even fuller when she became a grandmother to Olivia and Daisy Ann. They were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment she had with them.

She beamed with joy each and every time Olivia told her she was her best friend.

Alva was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was someone you could always count on.

Throughout her cancer journey, Alva displayed incredible courage and unwavering hope.

She leaves behind with wonderful memories and broken hearts, her life partner Glenn, daughter Courtney (BJ) King, her two precious grand daughters Olivia and Daisy Ann; mother Daisy, brothers Keith (Kay), Kirk (Nola) and Clyde (Cindy), Brother-in-laws Sterling (Verna) and Bruce (Jennette), Sister-in-laws Marie (George) Sturge and Joyce (Jesse) Humphries, her cousin and best friend Louisa (John) Gill as well as nieces, nephews and a large circle of other family members and many dear friends.

She is predeceased by her father Benjamin Bungay, whom we are sure was waiting for her with open arms, her parent in-laws Lillian and Archibald Norris, her baby brother Linburgh Bungay, and special cousin Trudy Lynn Gill.

Although her time with us was far too short, she leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter and memories that will remain in our hearts forever.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

As per Alva’s wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of Alva’s life will be held at Kittiwake Funeral Home by invitation only.
